One of Nigeria's top financial institutions, Access Bank, which recently acquired troubled Intercontinental Bank, has landed itself in a deep mess.

The bank, which has taken ownership of former Erastus Akingbola led Intercontinental Bank, sacked staffers of Intercontinental Bank some days ago.

In the case of Access Bank, it chose to sack it workers through Short Message Services (SMS). According to a sacked worker, who spoke to Nigeriafilms.com under anonymity, the sack was jokingly described as mobile-sack.

A copy of the sack SMS notification is provided below unedited;

“Dear All, Following d current restructuring in Access Bank, we regret 2 inform u dt ur service is no longer required. Pls note dt ur letter will be sent 2u soon.”

What should this be called?

Chakachaka | 2/21/2012 3:05:54 PM I have said it before that acquisition comes with restructuring and typcally the first casualities are the under performers! The wrong thing in this is firing people vie text message. Legally you cannot do this in the business world therefore i suggest the fired staff take them up legally on this. A good lawyer will get them good compensation for "wrongful termination" - if you will. Reply this thread
