Security: IG woos Armed Forces
Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, yesterday, sought the support of the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petirin, and the Armed Forces in helping the Nigeria Police regain its past glory.
He specifically asked the Armed Forces to provide the police with operational and other technical support in its fight against criminality and terrorism in the country.
He said: “The issue of crime, criminality and terrorism can be success-fully tackled only if all security agencies syner-gise, join forces together, both operationally and in intelligence sharing, to tackle these canker worms.”
He said modern policing, which was needed to tackle high level criminal activities in the country, could not be achieved without the support of other security agencies.
Responding, the CDS assured the IGP of the support and cooperation of the Armed Forces, noting that issues of security challenges affected all security agencies whenever they occurred.
He promised a robust partnership with the Police and urged the IG to utilise his wealth of experience.
